Using video in Social Media

Post videos or comments on Facebook, ask others to post on their Facebook or make comments, start a blog (but keep on it) and field questions on aquatic invasive species, tweet about it.

Getting videos to local television and broadcast stations

Give press packet- best if adapt and tweak to make relevant to your area.  See if can include local expert or resident to talk first hand about the issue in your community.

How to create a ‘buzz’ around aquatic invasive species

Talk to local television and radio station, local newspapers and magazines, put a personal spin on aquatic invasive species in your area, highlight heroes and community activities making a difference, distribute press packets, go on radio shows, local television shows, get local experts or residents to talk, hold public panel discussions, presentations, or community events, public picnics, invite gov’t officials, decision makers and legislatures, join up with other non-profit, community, and service club groups (Ducks Unlimited, Isaac Walton, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Kiwanis) to reach out….ask to speak at their meetings, to show videos, hand out materials.

Send via online newsletters, ask others to forward, get on list serves (a list serve is an online mailing list), create an Email and ask presidents of organizations to forward to their online mailing list.

How to embed a YouTube video

You can embed a youtube video onto a page of your website so it can play there without going to youtube. Embedding is accomplished by putting script that will look like:

into the html of your webpage at the location where you want the video. Described below is the Youtube directions about how to get this script for a particular video. Note that you have a number of options for the embedded video, in particular the display size in pixel dimentions.

How to embed a YouTube video

In order to embed a video into another website or blog:
  1. Click the Share button located under the video.
  2. Click the Embed button.
  3. Copy the code provided in the expanded box.
  4. Paste the code into your blog or website.

You may also customize your own embeddable player by clicking on the embed code. When you click on the embed code the space below it will expand and reveal customization options such as:

  • whether or not to include related videos
  • whether or not to enable privacy-enhanced mode
  • whether or not to use use the old embed code
  • the size
